Because used transmissions are heavy freight items, every order from Used Transmission Dealer ships via specialized Freight LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) carriers to ensure safe, reliable delivery nationwide.

1. Order Processing & VIN Verification

  • Processing Time: Orders are typically processed, prepped, strapped to wooden pallets, and crated within 1 to 3 business days.
  • VIN Verification (Required): Before your transmission is dispatched, our technical team verifies your order against your vehicle’s VIN to confirm correct fitment. Delays in providing a valid VIN may delay dispatch.

2. Shipping Costs & Delivery Types

  • Commercial Delivery — Free: Shipping is free when delivering to a commercial address, such as an auto repair shop or business location equipped with a loading dock or forklift. Commercial delivery is also typically faster, since carriers can unload without special equipment.
  • Residential Delivery — Liftgate Fee Applies: Delivery to a residential address is available and requires Liftgate Service to safely lower the pallet to ground level. A liftgate fee applies and will be shown at checkout before you complete your order.

3. Transit Times

Freight delivery typically takes 3 to 7 business days, depending on your destination state and carrier schedules. You’ll receive tracking information by email once your order ships.

4. Freight Inspection & Bill of Lading (BOL)

Important: When the freight carrier arrives, you or your receiving mechanic must inspect the shipment thoroughly before signing the carrier’s Bill of Lading (BOL).

  1. Inspect for Damage: Check the wooden pallet, metal banding, and transmission case for cracked bellhousings, broken sensors, crushed fluid pans, or fluid leakage.
  2. Document Damage on the BOL: If you find any damage, write “FREIGHT DAMAGED – SUBJECT TO INSPECTION” directly on the driver’s delivery receipt before signing.
  3. Report Within 48 Hours: Photograph any damaged packaging or parts and email support@usedtransmissiondealer.com within 48 hours so we can file an insurance claim with the carrier on your behalf.
  4. Signing Clean: Signing the BOL without noting damage releases the carrier and Used Transmission Dealer from liability for shipping-related damage.

5. Unloading & Site Access

Freight carriers operate large 53-foot semi-trucks, so the delivery location must be accessible to commercial trucks. Drivers will unload the pallet to the curb or shop entrance using a liftgate (if ordered), but are not authorized to move pallets into garages, backyards, or residential interiors.
